Do I have dry socket?
Answer:
Dry socket is actually marked by SEVERE pain coming from your removal site, not just minimal discomfort. It is caused my an inflammation of your surgical site. For now, you are just fine to eat solid food or whatever you are comfortable with, but also following oral surgeon's orders.
The hole you saw is completely normal; you will have one on each side. Your next follow-up with your oral surgeon is probably within a week of your surgery. They will use a small plastic syringe to irrigate your pockets (holes). Don't freak out, but just about everything you ate in the last week will come out! Gross, but you'll have to irrigate your pockets everyday to keep them clean. Over the next few weeks, they'll get smaller and eventually close.
Good luck!
Thats completly normal, where the tooth was removed you will have a hole for a few weeks or more, slowly the site will seal itself up. If you are not in so much pain you want to kill yourself you do not have dry socket. Eating solid foods is just fine just be careful of your mouth so it doesnt bleed and rinse your mouth out after each meal with a bit of salty warm water. Good luck :)
OH and actually it was the thursday before last on the 21st that I had my wisdom tooth removed, still a big hole there and a bit of pain.
If you had dry socket you sure as hell would not be here writing this, you'd be on your way to the ER asap, dry socket is exactly what it is, the removal site is dry, no blood clot. Reason for the pain is the air and everything else gets up to the exposed bone...and yea you can picture the pain.if it happens go to the ER and they will make the site bleed enough so it 'closes' the gap
