I am thinking of making an appointment to see a chiropractor?
Answer:
I saw a chirprator once for shoulder pain. His assistant applied a small electric current to my shoulder for pain. It worked. The chiropractor then cracked my back which I hated and I never went back.
Your case sounds more like something a doctor should look at.
If you can find a good one, they can help you with lining up etc:and if they think it's not something that they can help, they will send you to a specialist re: bone Dr or whatever you need and can give you a reference
Good idea, make sure you see a good one. Also do you sleep on your stomach? If you do this could be the beginning of your neck problems.
I go twice a week and love mine. It's a great relief to get an adjustment and prevents more pain. However, go to someone that has been recommended. Sudden neck adjustments done by an unqualified or unskilled person can result in dissection of the carotid artery and while rare, does happen.
I was having back problems before I turned 30. I had 2 misalignment's in my vertebrae. It was caused by sleeping on my stomach. I saw a chiropractor, and he did an x-ray , and it has been the most pleasurable procedure I have ever got. You have nothing to be afraid of, and each day you go, you will feel better as the treatments go on. I had 8 visits, and I am doing fine now.
You should definitely see a chiro. They can work wonders on your neck, back and even help with things like carpal tunnel and such. My chiropractor is really nice n friendly, talking to him is kinda like conversing with my brother, and all the ones I have went to really want to help you feel better. I had one who did the entire alt. medicine thing including accupuncture and essential oils, but not all do. It probably would be a great idea to ask around with friends, family and co-workers to see which has their confidence. You might be sore after the visit for a day or so, but if your neck or back has been out for a while you will feel the difference immediately.
Going to a chiropractor is pretty much like going to any doctors' office. You fill out a form and wait to be seen. The doctor will ask you some questions, and examine the area in question. Chiropractors don't always just crack your spine. They talk to you about your diet, give you exercises you can do at home, use devices that help relieve tension through vibration, etc.I go to one,and soon my husband will be too. With proper spinal adjustment alone, you'd be surprised how much this can help.Just check to make sure it's a reputable doctor, cause just about anyone can hang out a shingle these days.
Have you checked yourself for cervical spondylosis? It may be just a pain, but you got to make sure. What is the diagnosis?
Which area is the pain, how much is the radiation of pain? If its not a stiff neck, then is it a muscular pain? Chiropractors use manipulation techniques for bone disorders. If you are sure that it is not a bone related problem, then you should see your family physician.
In the mean time, you may keep this handy, it works.
My Simple Homemade Pain Reliever Balm
1 part Menthol
1 part Thymol
1 part Camphor
4 parts Eucalyptus oil
1/2 part Clove oil
1/4 part Cinnamon oil
Mix all together and store in an airtight bottle. All the crystals melt on contact and form an oily mass. Shake the mixture intermittently. You have a pain reliever at home.
Apply this mixture carefully as it will burn but the effect is great. You can dilute it by using petroleum jelly as a base.
Melt some Vaseline jelly, in a non usable container (steel), placed in boiling water. No direct heat should be applied.
For 1/2 cup of Vaseline, stir with a spoon and immediately remove from the boiling water as soon as it melts, put about a quarter cup of the above oil, stir again and store this in a glass bottle. Put the cap on and allow to cool for an hour. Or you can put this in your frige to set.
Now your balm is ready. You can use this balm directly on your affected area like you use any other balm.
Let me know how you feel. Any other opinion is welcome.
I myself have not been to one however my friend and her family go twice a week and she loves it is is one of the best things you can do!
The ability of the chiropractor to help you will depend on both his/her skill, and the cause of the pain. Your Chiro may have you x-rayed to determine if there has been any serious damage, or he/she may just be able to feel the area.
By all means, go for a visit. He/she will examine you, ask some questions, then likely give you a spinal/neck adjustment (it can sometimes hurt a little, but only for a second). Be aware that a chiropractor may not be able to help you if the problem is in the soft tissues. See if you can find one with soft tissue manipulation (e.g. massage, etc) experience. Or, consider seeing a massage therapist as well.
chiropractors are either miracle workers, or life breakers...they are miracle workers because they make my stiffness and cracks go away, but they are life breakers because my cousin went to a chiropractor and just after they massaged and cracked her neck, she couldn't move...the chiro had paralyzed her from the neck down because he didn't do the "crack" right...her mom sued the chiro, and he is now in prison for the rest of his life because the court considered it manslaughter, but it really wasn't because he didn't kill someone...because it's your neck, I wouldn't go, I would go see a doctor first.
Chiropractors are like prostitutes. They will make you feel better for a while, but you'll be back!
You tend to be mysteriously healed when your medical insurance ends.
If you have pain please consider a DO - doctor of osteopathic medicine. They are like an MD (they can do surgery and prescribe medicine) but they take specialty courses on the spine and supporting structures.
You will be surprised how many there are almost everywhere. Most insurance companies treat them exactly the same as Md's. There is usually not the same restrictions as to the number of visits or modalities that a DO can perform.
Most of all if you have a real problem a DO can better diagnose and treat it. If there is no problem they can perform all the same manipulations that a chiropractor can.
Good luck!
