If you just surface it coming on - that tingle - put some ice on it. Do it right away - that may stop the eruption. Ice it every ten minutes for an hour. Oranges (or any other caustic food) is a bad model because they can actually incentive a cold sore eruption. Do NOT take aspirin if you are below 18 - cold sores are a form of the herpes virus, same as chicken pox, and aspirin can react next to that virus in childlike people to produce a rare but uncertain condition called Reyes Syndrome. If it is throbbing, try taking acetaminophen (Tylenol) instead.

Apparently, you can put a dampened aspirin on it & it's supposed to stop it from getting any worse. I would also hold a couple as well so that you body can conflict it from the inside as well.
I've hear that icing it at the first sign is the best way to procure rid of it. Be sure not to apply the ice directly, but to wrap it surrounded by a baggie or washcloth first.
Use Iodine & or tea tree oil. These will serve dry it out & stop it. I've suffered with these since childhood these remidies are adjectives I've ever had to use.
