Hypnotherapy...would you?

If it was to help with weight loss, smoking, OCD, social problems, pain management etc. Would you consider it as a viable option? If not why not? Thanx x

Answer:
Hypnotherapy, is a very good option to treat various psychosomatic disorders. For pain management you need some tangible options. Yes you can help a person to lose weight, smoking, OCD, and social problems. These areas work on the mind, in addition, it helps in healing phobias, schizophrenia, and many mentally related disorders.

For pain management, you can infact use it for a temporary period. Post hypnotic suggestions cannot heal pain and the conditions associated with it. It can even be a dangerous option.

Remember, with hypnosis, you can only stop the sensation of pain and not the pain itself. Take the case of spondylosis, both cervical or lumbar, can you take care of the damaged or herniated discs? If you stop the pain by hypnosis, there may be a chance that the patient will over use and abuse his neck and back more than he is supposed to and this may result in serious problems.

You need to have an open mind towards hypno-therapy and its uses.

I am a hypnotherapist myself.
Yes I would consider hypnotherapy for something like weight loss but I would want to find someone highly recommended and well qualified (probably someone referred by GP or friend) I would imagine that there are a few dodgy hypnotherapists as well as lots of good ones.
Yes. We've just had a talk from an Hypnotherapist who convinced most of the group that she could cure certain problems. Rather, she is able to help one condition the mind to solve the problem. She was quite clear that the stage hypnotist act is nothing like her work. If all hypnotherapists were like her I would go for help.
She cited one example of someone who wanted to stop smoking but was very dubious about seeing her. She worked with him for one session and he said a waste of money. But he could not lift his arm to smoke when he tried.
Didn't work for me, have a look at "minfulness based cognitive therapy" for ocd and social phobia.

Hypnotherapy is a try and see thing, if u visualise well and are suggestable it may work but the costs are high.
i did. I went to see a hypnotherapist because I had a phobia for wasps. If a wasp came near me in the street I would jump in front of a car to get away!
The guy took me back to when I was at school and got stung on the neck. It was strange but it worked. I don't have a problem with wasps at all now!
I would investigate the Hypnotherapist thoroughly before investing money into the course of treatment. I tried Hypnotherapy for my weight/eating issues.
I found I was not easily hypnotized and also the Hypnotherapist was not really that good. Very nice person. But not good. . I came away with some resources but no real change.
A friend went to another hypnotherapist and quit smoking. But her techniques are a little different.
If you have been hypnotized before perhaps it would work better for you than it did for me.
Ask for references from the therapist before signing any contract or paying any fees. And do not be impressed with 'fancy' office layout. NOT an indication of skill.
If it were not so expensive I would try another therapist.
Good luck
No freaking way am I going to let a complete stranger into my brain. I dont trust anybody with my mind. Im not very trusting at all though somebody who is more trusting would be more apt do try this.
Yes I would consider it and have in fact tried it although it did not work for me; but then, when I had an operation, I fought the anaesthetic and was told that I was a bit of a control freak who always wanted to be in conscious control of my mind and body. No wonder it did not work for me! Shame I can't control my smoking though!
look at www.real-changes.com. she is amazing and it really works
