Alternative treatment for hypothyroidism?

A few years ago I was diagnosed with mild hypothyroidism and given the choice of taking medicine or not. I decided not to because I didn't want to start taking something that would hook me for life, but my sypmtoms seem to be getting worse. I have a low body temperature and am constantly tired. Cutting sugar out of my diet has helped a lot but I'm wondering if there are some herbs or vitamins that I should take. Eventually I'll go to the endocronologist, but until then, what causes thyroid problems and what can I do to treat them myself in the meantime?

Answer:
NO! You can't treat it yourself, You need to get to the doctor right away, so they can test your blood and see how many micrograms is best for you!

Mam, your thyroid is going to be non-functional very soon, please don't wait!

I have to take synthroid everyday, I almost died! I'll have to take it the rest of my life, because my thyroid gland is dead and will never work again, what it does you see, is it stimulates the pituitary gland which controls all your organs, and it's very important, TSH is thyroid stimulating hormone, it comes from the pituitary gland and goes to the thyroid gland, and when it get's up in the hundreds it's getting bad, TH - is Thyroid hormone, and it sends the message back to the pituitary gland.

What happens, is your body functions will totally shut down, and that's dangerous!

Go to the doctor NOW! and have a blood test, and get on the sythroid, and you'll start feeling better in about ten days, and in about eight weeks you will be un-stoppable, and you will feel much, much better!

Please! GO NOW!
Hypothyroidism means that your thyroid (a large gland in your neck that kind of resembles a butterfly) isn't producing enough thyroid hormone. Because of the cascade effect of most hormones and the way they are released into the body it could also be that other glands aren't being stimulated enough and causing lack of hormones being produced by the thyroid.

Make an appointment to see your endocrinologist as soon as possible to prevent further symptoms from appearing.

And just in case someone mentions iodine and taking that, don't. Excess iodine will make hypothyrodism much worse. Being in a industrialized country you're more than likely getting enough iodine in your foods and the hypothyroidism is caused by something else.
Don't take iodine by mouth. Put it on your skin. A quarter size spot on your skin everyday in a different place. It is amazing to watch. The first day you put it on it will disappear quickly. After a while it will stay twentyfour hours so that when you put the next "dot" on the old one is still there. Iodine is necessary for correct thyroid function. By allowing your body to absorb it, you are helping to support your thyroid.
Untreated hypothyroidism can lead to elevated cholesterol levels and even heart problems. I wouldn't mess with herbs. There are a few supplements like selenium, zinc, and Ltyrosine that can help with conversion of T4 into T3, but this is together with the use of thyroid hormone. If you don't like the idea of synthetic medications, there is an alternative...Armour thyroid. It's the oldest thyroid med on the market and I found it to work best for me. Links on it below.

By the way, when testing thyroid levels always test first thing in the morning.
im glad you did not take the medication,,,for once you start you cannot stop taking it,,,for the the medication disactivates your thyroid...you should be 100% sure that there are no other alternatives before starting a thyroid medication.there might be a slight chance that you might have depression which give similar symtoms to what you have.you should by at a health food store,,not a pharmacy,,,,a multi vitamin and multi mineral complex,,,and you might feel better,,, most illness start with poor diets,,,and vitamins will make up for things you missing,,,,as your life changes so will your illness,,seek things that give you happiness,,,such as music, art,,,or whatever that makes you feel happy,,,,angel guasch
