Will eating Aloe Vera aid in the relieving constipation?

I've read that Aloe Vera is good to relieve constipation. I have a plant at the back and I was wondering whether I could eat the inside pulp?

Has anyone tried this?
Does Aloe Vera 'really' relieve constipation?

Feedback or experience appreciated :-)

Answer:
I don't think i would try that, go for something in the form of a laxative. Maybe you should try something like Metamucil on daily basis or a stool softener. That should help.
CONSTIPATION is RELAXAITON!!!!
no, i don't think so... but try eating chicken noodle soup w/ rice in it. it really works!
Yes, it is supposed to. Aloe vera supplements usually caution about when to take it, because it can help bowel movements sometimes too easily.

I suppose you could eat the pulp, but it's much easier and probably better formulated to go to store and buy liquid Aloe vera juices. They're specifically made and balanced to be drinkable. I'd think your plant would be extremely good for burns and topical application tho'. Friends of mine grew up with aloe plants and as kids, if they ever got a cut or burn, they'd just go over and break off a leaf and smear it on, no mess, no fuss.

I used to drink the aloe vera juices for nutrition, not for constipation. That's one thing I've never had problems with in my life.

Have you ever tried just a simple cup of coffe or coke in mornings? I myself, with a mere sip of my wild cherry pepsi in mornings, get "things moving" incredibly easy, in just couple minutes. Caffeine is a stimulant, especially for the digestive system.

But one of the easiest and cleanest ways to deal with such a problem is with drinking enough water. Water is the main lubricant of the body. You are constipated because there isn't enough moisture in the intestine and the waste foods being processed. But why there isn't enough moisture is the problem.
Enough water? Then you have to search elsewhere.
But generally, it's probably lack of enough water.

I had an elderly neighbor, and he always complained of constipation, very terrible for him. Laxatives wouldn't help either. Well, one day, I began to notice that he only drank about a pint of water a day! A day! Not kidding, here!!
No wonder he couldn't "move", the body was taking any moisture it could to keep him alive!

So hope some of this might be of value to you. You just have to search to find what will be best for you. Good Luck.
Aloe Vera is effective, but maybe you could try drinking plenty of green tea or another type of tea, as it is even more effective...choose a plant from this link:

aloe is a very effective remedy to constipation, but be careful, it is strong... i reccomend using cloe with other herbs such as senna, and cascara sagrada extracts so you dont overdoo the effect and it is more holistic. Taking psyllium, or kelp capsules are great bulk forming laxatives also, which really help you get regular which i use for intense colon cleanses sometimes in conjunction with a kidney and liver cleanse. Finally, if you eat cereal everyday, i reccomend any of the Fiber One cereals which contain over 11g of fiber per searving, and they taste good too, they even have rasin and honey flavored...but yes, aloe does work very well at relieveing constipation, just make sure not to take too much or you willl get diariah:)
Fantastic question and its also one of my favorite natural products Aloe Vera is a medicinal herb used internally for constipation and externally to relieve pain and stimulate healing of burns, wounds, sunburn a.d. possibly frostbite. Traditionally it has been known to influence digestion and reduce or eliminate worms. Other traditional uses have been in treating stomach disorders, diabetes, arteriosclerosis, amenorrhea, or suppressed menses, menstrual complaints, infections, herpes simplex viruses, .and skin diseases. It is also used as a beauty aid for the skin.

Should my health care professional be advised before I take Aloe?

They should be consulted first if you have any of these conditions, as Aloe Vera usage may be contraindicated: Internal Usage: If you are menstruating (possible stimulation of endometrial activity) If you have Crohn's disease If you have ulcerative colitis If you have appendicitis, or any other inflamed intestinal disease. If you have abdominal pain (from an unknown source) If you are taking medication with cardiac glycosides (Potassium loss - a possible side effect- can effect the drugs action) If you are taking antiarrythimic medication (Potassium loss - a possible side effect - can effect the drugs action) If you are taking thiazide diuretics, licorice, or corticosteroids (Potassium loss may be aggravated with these drugs
Topically, aloe vera gel can be applied repeatedly, especially in the case of burns. Just rub it on the affected area, let it dry, and reapply when needed. Fresh gel from a live leaf is the most potent -- and economical -- form of the herb. If you have an aloe vera plant, cut off several inches from a leaf, then slice the cutting lengthwise. Spread the gel found in the center onto the affected area.

For internal use, take aloe vera juice between meals. Another form of aloe, called aloe latex, a yellow extract from the inner leaf, is a powerful laxative and should be used only sparingly under a doctor's care.

For internal use: Take one-half to three-quarters of a cup of aloe vera juice three times a day.
Yes aloe vera does relieve constipation. It is a very good fiber rich antoxidant. As such it helps in easing constipation. Aloe is good for a number of other ailments as well.Aloe Vera also contains aloin, which in small dosages acts as a natural laxative.

Take an aloe vera leaf and extract the juice, blend it in a blender and drink about 30 ml twice a day.

For severe constipation, you need something better than aloe vera. Psyllium husk is much better.

Psyllium is a bulk-forming laxative and is high in both fiber and mucilage. Psyllium seeds contain 10-30% mucilage. The laxative properties of psyllium are due to the swelling of the husk when it comes in contact with water. This forms a gelatinous mass and keeps the feces hydrated and soft. The resulting bulk stimulates a reflex contraction of the walls of the bowel, followed by emptying.
Constipation is an unknown quantity and there are many ways of shifting the offending blockage. Laxatives are the best method but go for a stronger dosed medication because natural remedies seem to be at work overnight while you are asleep and the effects are really mild and you will still have to endure discomfort. With other sources, however, a couple of hours will have been effective and you will be able to **** through the eye of a needle.

If all else fails, get a teaspoon and use the handle part to ease out the first obstructive feaces and the rest will follow on. How about a good horror movie?
My sister who thinks she knows all, started eating and drinking Aloe Vera because someone gave her one plant. That plant became an over growth in no time at all and my sister spent a lot of time in the bathroom. Liquids milk, juices, tea etc. supply water but drink 64 oz of water in addition and you won't get constipated. The inside is good for burns, cuts and sunburns. It would be better to get some liquid Aloe Vera juice to drink if your "full of ..it." Don't use anything but a finger to "dig" yourself out as a foreign object could cause a ruptured bowel or other cause of bleeding.
